A journey back from illness to a life of adventure, love, travel and pleasure.
Documented by Adam Vieglais
In November 2019 I was on top of the world. Competing in long course Triathlons (picture), running my own successful business, perfect family, great health, volunteering to help our community be stronger and then the world fell apart.
I started feeling "off" so went to the doctor with fatigue and headaches in December 2019. By April 2020 I had been admitted to Hospital 3 times, has numerous CT scans, MRI's etc and the last of those 3 hospital visits included a week in ICU (Intensive Care Unit).
My symptoms baffled the doctors and my health continued to decline throughout 2020. In late 2020 I sold my business basically on a walk-in walk out scenario and by the time the sale was completed in early November 2020, I had not really worked in any capacity since March 2020.
It is June 2021 as I write this and I still have been unable to work, although recent breakthrough in treatment is leaving me more positive about the future - which has led to what I call "Finding Life". My term for re-finding what has been lost.
For more than 6 months, I have not been able to talk on the phone and have not really caught up with people due to my health issues. (Keep an eye on the youtube channel for more details on these).
Whilst my condition is still undiagnosed, epolipsy treatement appears to be having a positive outcome. My symptoms are many and widespead, but it is neurological and I sum it up as a muscle control issue. Sometimes I cannot breathe properly, most times I cannot walk properly, I fall over all the time and I have debilitating seizures which generally last around 40 minutes but can last up to 3 hours.
The effects of all these mean that life has revolved around my wonderful family and my home, with little more interaction. I am now determined to re-find life and I encourage you to follow me on my journey as I hopefully take on more and more adventures over the coming years.
